A sign in the front window of a Dairy Queen restaurant in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, has drawn notice and gone viral. The sign underlines the restaurant’s use of greetings like “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Easter,” and “God Bless America” and boldly states its position as “politically incorrect.” On Veterans Day, it also provides complimentary sundaes to veterans of the armed forces, expresses gratitude to the troops, and supports the American flag.
Kevin Scheunemann, the owner of the franchise, defended the sign, saying that he hung it almost four years ago to be open about the owner and employees’ support for God and their nation. Scheunemann claims that he posted the sign in response to a patron’s complaint over Christian music playing in the eatery. The sign has since
After a visitor from Oregon shared a photo of the sign on Facebook, raising concerns about the message’s apparent exclusivist values, it recently went viral. Before it was removed, the original post received a lot of attention.
While some people agree with the message on the sign, others have taken to attacking the person who posted the image and expressed their views. Nonetheless, local business owners back Scheunemann’s choice to post the sign, claiming that patrons who disagree with the establishment’s values can choose not to visit.
Residents in Kewaskum, a small community, appear to accept the sign without question because they think it expresses the owner’s personal opinions. As a company, Dairy Queen made it clear that they do not support Scheunemann’s strategy and that the sign solely reflects the opinions of this individual proprietor.
The business declared that regardless of their beliefs, all franchisees and staff are expected to treat every client with respect and decency.
