
The 50-year-old CEO was apparently walking to UnitedHealthcare’s investor meeting when an unidentified shooter came up behind him and fired several rounds, hitting him in the calf and back, according to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Mount Sinai West Hospital declared Thompson deceased.
Police called it a “premeditated, preplanned targeted attack,” according to NBC.
According to surveillance footage released by NBC, the shooter waited for a number of minutes before shooting Thompson, who was dressed in a blue suit.

As he fell, the assailant pursued him and kept shooting.
According to the police, the gun seemed to jam but was unlocked before the gunman started shooting again.
