After posing with House Speaker Mike Johnson for a photo to mark the start of the next Congress, Georgia GOP Rep. Barry Loudermilk departed with promises that his investigation into the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol will be properly created as a new committee.
The move turns the Republican Party’s effort to alter the January 6 narrative into a recurrent feature in its investigative agenda.
It is a part of a broader Republican push to implement several GOP-led probes from the previous Congress, now that the GOP will control both chambers of Capitol Hill and the White House.
Although the new committee’s exact composition is still being finalized, Loudermilk told CNN that one option is to structure it in a way that gives Johnson greater control over the panel’s membership and direction.
Republican efforts to absolve President-elect Donald Trump of accountability for the violence on January 6th are still prevalent.
as demonstrated by the formation of a new committee to honor Loudermilk’s contributions, which included a report recommending that the FBI bring charges against former Republican Representative Liz Cheney.
