Fueled by 60 mph winds, the Palisades Fire began on January 7, 2025, in the Pacific Palisades and has since burned approximately 1,260 acres without being contained. Because of the fire’s severe threat to the nearby communities, Governor Gavin Newsom
to formally declare a crisis. Fifteen zones have been ordered to evacuate, while 19 more locations have received evacuation advisories. For displaced residents, an evacuation center has been established inside the Westwood Recreation Center.
The Pacific Coast Highway is among the highways that are closed. Local authorities and CAL FIRE firefighters are attempting to suppress the fire. In an attempt to assist with evacuations, actor Steve Guttenberg has urged locals to make room on the highways for rescue vehicles.
