The first openly transgender congresswoman, Sarah McBride, has voiced her opposition to former President Donald Trump’s anti-LGBTQ+ executive actions. In a stirring speech at the HRC Greater New York Dinner, McBride denounced the administration’s attempts to weaken protections for transgender and non-binary people.
There is a great deal of outrage about Trump’s proposals, which include limiting gender recognition to two and prohibiting transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports. McBride highlighted how these policies undermine federal initiatives that support diversity and inclusion while harming LGBTQ+ people and their families.
McBride declared, “This administration is obsessed with controlling our lives.” “Transgender individuals are being used as pawns in a bigger scheme to undermine federal protections and enrich Trump’s closest supporters.”
McBride advocated for a more intelligent, humane method of advocating. “We must change people’s perspectives and meet them where they are,” she stated. “This fight is about defending the values of equality and justice for all, not just LGBTQ+ rights.”
