I was “begged” for some water by a wild snake. Animal Control Says, “You Got Lucky,” When They Understand Why

admin, May 10, 2025

Jake’s tranquil day at the lake took a sudden change when a wild snake showed up and made an odd approach to him. At first, he assumed the snake was merely inquisitive, but as it approached, its actions appeared to be different from what he had previously observed.

What began as a peaceful fishing day quickly evolved into a mystery that would cause Jake to wonder about the ways of nature. The Strange Action of the Snake
Jake was enjoying the serene surroundings while sitting by the shore when a snake suddenly materialized.

It stopped a few feet away and slithered up to him. He wouldn’t normally have thought a snake would approach a human this closely, but this one didn’t appear hostile.

In fact, the snake seemed calm, yet its approach was peculiar.

Initially, Jake assumed the snake was simply passing by, but he quickly noticed something different.
It wasn’t slithering away like he expected but it stopped and stayed near him. This unusual behavior caught his attention, and he became increasingly curious.

Without fully understanding what was going on, Jake cautiously made a decision to offer the snake a small amount of water.

The idea that the snake might be thirsty crossed his mind, but he wasn’t entirely sure what it meant for an animal like this to behave in such a way.

Getting in touch with Animal Control
Jake called animal control because he was worried about the snake’s conduct. He wasn’t sure if something terrible was happening or if he was just overreacting.

It was unusual to witness a wild snake approach a person so closely, and the circumstance appeared to call for expert assistance.

Mark, a seasoned animal control officer, showed up at the scene shortly after. Jake wasn’t expecting him to respond the way he did.

Mark was serious from the minute he arrived, contrary to Jake’s expectation that he would just brush the matter aside.

“Are you alright, Jake?” Mark inquired, concentrating solely on the snake.

Jake nodded, still not understanding what was going on. He hadn’t anticipated such a powerful response. “Is this typical?” Jake pointed to the snake and asked.

Jake could tell something wasn’t quite right just by Mark’s quiet. Mark remained silent for a long moment before speaking in a calm but worried tone. “Usually not. With this one, we must exercise caution.

The Behavior of the Snake: Something Was Wrong
In an attempt to defuse the tension, Jake tried to make light of the situation. “So, it’s not just a friendly guest, is it?” He made a joke, but Mark didn’t smile in return.

With his gaze fixed on the snake, Mark remarked, “Animals behave differently when something is wrong.”

He kept examining the snake closely, observing that it was staying motionless and serene.

Jake’s calmness started to fade as he realized that the situation was more serious than he had initially believed. What had begun as an innocent encounter had now turned into a cause for concern. A Familiar Spot, but a New Experience Jake frequently went to the lake as a way to escape from the busy world; it was one of his favorite places, a peaceful spot where he could relax, fish, and enjoy the calm surroundings. Normally, the lake was a place where he would spend hours without any disturbances. He had previously seen local wildlife, including fish, birds, and the occasional frog, but never a snake that

It was blazing hot outside when I noticed a large black snake slithering toward me. Instead of acting aggressively, it just stopped and lifted its head—almost as if it were pleading. Something in me said to help, so I filled a glass with water and slowly set it down. To my surprise, the snake drank from the glass. Mark nodded, his eyes still fixed on the snake. “This isn’t typical behavior for a snake around here,” he said.

I believed it to be a unique, serene moment—until Animal Control showed up. “You got lucky,” they said after glancing at you.

Safety and caution first
Mark handled the matter in a composed yet somber manner. He recommended that they take a step back to provide the snake some room. Mark remarked in a calm and steady voice, “Jake, let’s back up a bit.”

Jake paused, uncertain of the snake’s motivations. Jake noted, “It’s not attacking.”

Mark didn’t waver. “It is irrelevant. Snakes can be erratic. It’s best to keep safe and allow it some room.

Despite his interest, Jake took Mark’s advise and stepped back. Both of them watched the snake from a safe distance, anticipating how things would turn out.
