Austin Metcalf, 17, had what should have been a routine high school track meet turned into a nightmare when he was fatally stabbed by a fellow student. His distraught family is still trying to figure out how this happened. It’s a horrifying crime.
According to the New York Post, the two multisport athletes, who had never met before, got into a heated argument over a seat during the event, which involved multiple Frisco ISD schools, and the attacking student quickly reached into his backpack, pulled out a knife, and stabbed Austin in the chest. The entire altercation lasted less than 30 seconds. Authorities rushed to save Austin’s life, performing CPR and giving him blood in a last-ditch effort to revive him, but the 17-year-old passed away at the scene.
It is unprecedented for a young youngster to be stabbed during a school function, and Austin’s father, Jeff, thinks the argument started when his son warned the suspect he was in the wrong place. Jeff also said Austin did not know the student who killed him. The tragedy has left the town in shock.

After learning of what had transpired, Jeff arrived at the stadium to find his son lying still on a stretcher, a scene no father should ever have to witness.
He wasn’t breathing, they stated. I could see the location of the wound and all of the blood. Although we prayed, they were unable to save him; I’m not sure why, but it’s God’s plan. NBC was informed by Jeff that this was murder.
Even worse, Hunter, Austin’s twin brother, saw the horrifying assault and attempted to save his sibling.
According to Jeff, “they were identical twins, and his brother was trying to stop the bleeding by holding on to him, and he died in his brother’s arms.”
Hunter, Austin’s twin, recounted the heartbreaking moment when he tried to save his brother’s life. “I tried to whip around as fast as I could,” he told WFAA, his voice trembling. “I put my hand on there. I grabbed his hand and looked in his eyes. I just saw his soul leave, and it took mine too,” Hunter Metcalf told FOX News, recalling the tragic event. Hunter held Austin until first responders arrived. “It was really senseless,” Hunter said. “[Austin] did everything for our family. He was a strong man. He was a strong kid….” According to Austin’s family, the altercation started in the stands over a seating dispute.
Someone was mouthing off behind them as they sat there. “Who are you?” they said, turning around. “My name is Melo,” he added. “Well, you don’t belong here,” they said. Memorial is not a place you visit. He was wearing a Centennial track suit. “Well, you have to go,” they said. This is not your place. Jeff Metcalf clarified. “And we talked about some things I won’t say on camera, but he asked him to go, and he essentially said, ‘Make me.'” He then killed him by stabbing him in the heart while he was sitting in the wrong place during a track meet.
Recalling Austin
Austin excelled academically, was a committed student, and was a standout member of his high school football team.
He was dependable and a leader to his classmates.
“He was headed in the right direction,” Jeff said. Many people loved him. He was a leader.
Jeff also questioned the teen who killed his son’s upbringing.
”I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He killed my kid by stabbing him in the heart when he was at a track meet with a knife.
After the investigation, Frisco Police arrested 17-year-old suspect Karmelo Anthony, who is now being charged with murder. The Frisco Police Department released an official statement saying, “The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain.”

The stadium was secured, all students were sent back to their campuses, and the 11-5A district championship track meet, which included over 100 students from eight schools, was immediately shut down after the incident. Investigators have not yet revealed the precise location of the stabbing, but police were observed inspecting a portion of the stands close to the track. Authorities assured the community that they are working closely with the Frisco Independent School District to offer support during this trying time.
