GOP first-term Texas Representative Brandon Gill is calling on the Trump administration to send Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) back to her native Somalia.
Gill tweeted on Tuesday that “deporting @IlhanMN back to Somalia would make America a better place.”
A video footage of Omar seemingly teaching other Somalis in the United States—possibly without legal status—how to thwart federal immigration agents was included in his tweet. “Ilhan Omar is now hosting workshops for Somalis living in the country illegally to advise them on how to avoid being deported,” said conservative influencer Greg Price, who posted the video.
Gill found a sympathetic audience on X, with several users backing his call. One remarked, “100%! She’s anti-American as they come. She pledged allegiance to the United States and has only ever acted against it. She’s a fraud, liar, and traitor to this country!” Another user chimed in, “Isn’t this against the law? Expel her!” Yet another declared, “She is committing federal crimes by telling illegal immigrants how to avoid ICE. She deserves to be investigated and prosecuted.”
In a later statement, Gill asserted, “We should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country.” A spokesperson for Gill explained to The Hill, “Representative Omar’s conduct raises questions about her loyalty—whether it’s to the American people or to illegal aliens from Somalia. It is disgraceful for a sitting Congresswoman and U.S. citizen to facilitate the invasion of our country by illegal alien Somalis.”
Omar’s Divisive Guidance
If U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) authorities were to interrogate undocumented Somalians or those whose documents may have expired, Omar gave them advice on how to react in the video. “You are under no obligation to respond to their inquiries. “Just tell the reporter that a lawyer has advised you not to answer questions,” she said. It is not required that you reveal your name, immigration status, or method of arrival. Study the laws and get ready; don’t tell them anything you would rather they don’t know.
Omar’s comments coincide with the administration of President Donald Trump continuing to carry out his campaign pledge to deport large numbers of people, beginning with criminals who are illegal immigrants. Although the administration’s focus is on criminal aliens, anyone discovered to be in the country illegally might face arrest and deportation, said border czar and veteran Border Patrol officer Tom Homan.
Before Trump took office in December, Homan issued a warning: “Be prepared for a lot of collateral arrests in sanctuary cities.” “The terrible guy cannot be imprisoned. This implies that we must search the communities for them, and there might be more. A large number of incidental arrests are anticipated. Additionally, he stated that at that time, there were more than 700,000 criminal foreigners with convictions.
He said, “We’re starting across the country on the same day,” adding that each field office would receive instructions to start searching for, apprehending, holding, and expelling those who had been detained for a crime.
Airborne Tensions
Homan and CNN’s Kaitlan Collins got into a heated argument on the administration’s mass deportation efforts in another interview from December. Homan gave a stern response when Collins expressed concerns about ICE officials hunting down illegal aliens who might be hiding in hospitals, schools, and places of worship. Citing concerns about a chilling impact on parents, she questioned, “What is the standard, I guess, to go into an elementary school?”
Unless your child poses a threat to public safety or is a terrorist, it shouldn’t have a chilling effect.
