Live webcams showed a backyard spark quickly turning into a massive wildfire on Tuesday morning. Within minutes, the flames consumed dry vegetation, and grey smoke turned into thick clouds. “This wildfire is spreading faster than anything we’ve ever seen,” said LA Fire Chief Kristin Crowley. There are currently five active fires raging in Los Angeles, with the Palisades wildfire destroying thousands of homes and structures. Approximately 179,783 residents are under evacuation orders, and another 200,000 are on evacuation warning. Experts blame the disaster on climate change, extreme weather, and last year’s El Niño rains, which sparked vegetation growth that later dried out and became highly flammable. Santa Ana winds have further fueled the blaze.
